Dear Musicians,
I’ve always been quite baffled with how my taste of music has changed over the years. As a young music student, I used to listen to music that made me go “wow”. However, back then, I didn’t bother to pay attention to what it was that made me like a song or not.
Nowadays, it’s clear to me that I was looking for musical “stunts” – unbelievable technical achievements that I would most probably never achieve. It went so far that I started to question whether I’m worthy being a musician if I can’t master technical skills the way others can. I was in awe of all those great musicians that mastered every single aspect of their music. Technically, harmonically, stylistically perfect. more info

The idea of my song suggestions is to hopefully expose our readers and listeners to discover music they wouldn’t listen to otherwise. This week’s example is a special treat in my opinion.
The belgian band “Aka Moon” has been in a league of their own for years. Their music is so original and creative. They play around with metric modulations and bring this skill to a whole new level without neglecting groove and truly inspiring improvisation.
The band has released many albums with a long list of special guests. You can learn more about them on their site: www.akamoon.com.
Artist: Aka Moon (Frabizio Cassol, Michel Hatzigeorgiou, Stephane Galland & special guests David Gilmore, Prasanna, Pierre Vandormael)
Album: Aka Moon “Guitars”

Dear Musicians,
I so happened to stumble upon a study on the state of music education in Canada, an interesting read. It basically says that there’s not enough funding which results in the decline of quality music education around the country. more info

Dear Musicians,
You’ve passed an audition and got a job on a cruise line and now you’re faced with the problem of getting your instruments to the ship. Now, in most cases this is not very problematic, but for saxophone players this can be quite tricky. more info

Rumors are starting to circulate that the construction of RCI’s newest mega ship is falling behind schedule. The first new construction of “Project Genesis”, a 220,000 ton giant is being built at Aker Yards in Finland and is supposed to set sail in fall of 2009.
Finnish media had reported that possible delay due to a shortage of skilled workers, only to be denied by Aker Yards.
The first of two ships, will accommodate 5,400 passengers, is going to be 60,000 tons larger than the the biggest ship in the world (Liberty of the Seas at 160,000) and if stood upright, it would dwarf New York’s Chrysler Building.
If you’ve been holding off on cruising because you’d have to miss a couple of your beloved episodes of “Biggest Loser”, you may want to reconsider.
