Dear Musicians,
You’ve worked hard to prepare for an audition, you’ve passed it and you’re anxious to start your new gig. Coming prepared to a gig seems so obvious that you may wonder why there needs to be an article on this.
Well, unfortunately, some people don’t seem to know what it means to come prepared. I’ve seen drummers show up to a musical theatre gig without brushes! Not because they forgot, but because “they didn’t think they needed brushes”. While this is not the end of the world, this certainly doesn’t leave the best impression.
By being prepared, I’m not only talking about bringing the right equipment, I also mean being prepared for the music that you’re about to play and being prepared to deal with the kinds of people you’ll be working with.

I bring up the topic of sight-reading music because I get confronted with it on a daily basis. As president of Oceanbound Entertainment Inc., a talent agency responsible of placing qualified musicians on cruise ships, I witness the lack of sight-reading abilities amongst musicians daily and I have to answer hundreds of questions about this confusing thing called sight-reading. more info

While some cruise liners have been outfitted with rock climbing walls, ice skating rinks and mini golf courses, Celebrity Cruises has now created a new country club environment on their top deck called “The Lawn Club“, complete with real growing grass.
