Hurricane Dean created some serious damage to the port of Costa Maya. According to first estimates, the port will be closed for 6 to 8 months for repairs. The destination has quickly become a popular place for cruise ship passengers to enjoy the beach, the sun and the booze.

Millions will have to be spent to be able to accommodate the large cruise ships, hopefully by mid-2008 as per officials.

CND’s Cruiseblogger reports that five cruise ship passengers died on one of their excursions. The Zuiderdam, one of Holland America’s ships, was docked in Ketchikan, Alaska, where the passengers undertook an excursion by plane. more info
